Rabi-Ribi Platinum Edition Physical Release Update

After a lot of discussion, we have made the decision to cancel the Nintendo Switch physical release of Rabi-Ribi Platinum Edition while continuing production on the PlayStation 4 physical release.
Originally when announced back in 2024, we had hoped that reception would be much stronger for a game as popular as Rabi-Ribi. Understandably, the PS4 is entering it’s end of life cycle right now but we believed that it was still possible to high enough preorder numbers to justify the risk and push through. Unfortunately, after several months those numbers failed to hit what we needed to go in to printing.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 coming out this year, we had hoped that Nintendo would lower the minimum order quantity on Nintendo Switch 1 cartridges but that also has not changed. It was folly for us to not offer preorders on Amazon as well.
To keep things short, this is what will be happening going forward:
- PlayStation 4 physical release will continue though it will be delayed to 2026 to avoid possible complications from the holidays.
- Current status on the PlayStation 4 release: ESRB certificate has been received while PS4 art assets have been submitted and approved by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Currently awaiting further instruction to begin ordering discs before the pack-in goods will go in to production
- Music sampler CD to be changed to either an wafer-style USB card (similar to the Japan/Asia release) or multiple CDs to match the content offered by the Japan/Asia release
- Customers who preordered the Nintendo Switch physical release will be offered a choice of changing to the PlayStation 4 physical release at no additional cost. A survey will be sent to affected customers later this month
- A deadline of December 31, 2025 will be set for customers who preordered the Nintendo Switch physical release to decide on whether to change to the PlayStation 4 physical release or request a refund. Any users who do not respond by that date will have their preorder automatically canceled and refunded
Regarding the PlayStation 4 physical release:
- Print run in total will 1,200 units
- Of the above amount, 350 units will be limited edition versions to cover all preorder customers
- Remaining amount will be a regular edition priced at $34.99
- Regular editions will be made available for purchase on Amazon at a later date
Additional information:
- Why didn’t Sekai Project work with companies such as Limited Run Games to make physicals?
We did. We actually reached out to LRG as well as most of the other prominent physical console game publishers in the West. All of them either were not interested or ghosted us.
- Will Sekai Project try doing console physical releases in the future after this?
Aside from PlayStation 4/5 since Sony Interactive Entertainment’s minimum order quantity is much lower and reasonable, most likely not.
